Windows XP: Get rid of stubborn files

Posted by cascadehush on September 17, 2006

Gibin Software House has a freeware utility MoveOnBoot 1.9.5 which allows you to tell Windows to move or delete a file next time the system boots. This is a great way of getting rid of files which are mysteriosly locked.

The inerface is stupid. There is simply no reason to force the user through a 4 page wizard just to delete a file. But it is free and the annoyance factor of a file you can’t delete is way higher than the interface annoyances.

(Note that they have a more recent version which is part of a shareware package, but they still make this old freeware one available. Perhaps the newer version is better.)
